Five Dock Mobile Coverage

While I was out in the community doorknocking and holding mobile offices, so many residents in Five Dock told me about the inadequate and patchy mobile phone coverage in the area. Last September, I sent out a survey to find out the extent of the problem and I received almost 400 responses detailing the impact poor mobile reception was having on your quality of life and your businesses.

Over the past few months, I’ve been working to relay your feedback to the three major telecommunication companies - Telstra (including ALDI, Boost, Tangerine, Belong), Optus (including Amaysim, Dodo, Coles Mobile) and TPG/Vodafone (including iiNet, Lebara). I wrote and met with each of them and asked for their plans to improve mobile coverage for the Five Dock community.

The companies have advised me that there will be one mobile tower facility built on Great North Road, with TPG and Optus in the next few months, and another mobile tower facility built on Lyons Rd by the end of the year.

This means residents and businesses across Five Dock should see improved mobile phone coverage in the next few months, with further improvements by the end of the year.

I will continue to engage with the telecommunication companies on further upgrades and will update the community as we progress. Thanks to the many residents who spoke to me, wrote to me, and filled in my survey and campaigned long and hard to improve the mobile phone coverage in the area.

Thanks also to City of Canada Bay Councillors Andrew Ferguson and Julia Little for their advocacy
